Southampton football club had a relatively successful 2019-2020 season despite finishing 11th on the league table. The Hampshire based club won 15 matches, drew 7 and lost 16 matches before the Premier League season ended.
Southampton started the 2020-2021 Premier League season in a very bad note. They met with Crystal Palace, a mid-table team like them on September 12, but they couldn’t do much. Hence, they lost to their host 1-0 to mark the beginning of a season they were expected to perform better in.
Afterward, Ralph Hasenhüttl and his boys had the chance to boost their confidence when they played the second round of the EFL Cup on September 16 against Brentford, a Championship side, but Southampton lost the match 2-0 on their home turf, St Mary’s Stadium.
Unfortunately for Ralph Hasenhüttl and his boys, their next Premier League meeting after the EFL Cup catastrophe was against an ambitious Jose Mourinho side. As expected, Southampton lost the match 2-5 to Tottenham to mark their second Premier League defeat this season and their third loss in all competitions so far.
However, Southampton’s fans finally had a reason to smile on September 26 when their club visited Burnley for the club’s third Premier League match of the season. Hasenhüttl was able to work out a way that gave Southampton a 0-1 victory.
