Southampton are in the transfer market to strengthen their squad ahead of the 2020-2021 season and would not give room for their best legs at the club to leave this summer. However, there is a high possibility that they could sacrifice their 20-year-old striker Michael Obafemi.

As Southampton are looking forward to keeping their best legs, one of the players they could bring in this summer is 29-year-old Watford center-forward, Danny Welbeck. They intend to buy the former England international for a cut-price of £5.5 million.

Danny Welbeck, who has played for Manchester United for 6 years before he moved to Arsenal for 5 seasons, doesn’t want to go down to the Championship with Watford after just a season with them. He will prefer to move to any club in the Premier League rather than being relegated to the second-tier league in England despite the fact that he still has one more season left on his contract with Watford.

Though the striker had a terrible 2019-2020 season where he could only manage to score 3 goals and provided one assist in 20 matches, he has reportedly attracted the interest of some Premier League clubs that believe he could add value to their teams. However, Southampton look more like the club that will rescue the striker back to the Premier League in the forthcoming season.

Meanwhile, as Southampton are trying to get Danny Welbeck, newly promoted West Brom want to sign their 20-year-old Irish football star Michael Obafemi this summer.

According to reports, West Brom believe that the former Chelsea youth player who had spells at Arsenal, Watford, Leyton Orient, and then Southampton’s youth teams, would be a good source of strength for the club.

However, Southampton would not let him go cheaply as he has proven to be a good option to their top forward Danny Ings. Despite the fact that Obafemi had limited playing time with Saints in the just-concluded season, he has managed to score a total of 4 goals and has made 4 assists.

With the form of Danny Ings who scored a total number of 25 goals and made 3 assists, and then with the interest Southampton’s manager Ralph Hasenhuttl is having in Welbeck, there could still be limited time for Obafemi to perform in the forthcoming season.

Hence, there is a huge chance that the Irish football star could jump on any Premier League club that can guarantee him regular playing time. But Southampton would not let that happen without at least £10 million on the table.

As West Brom have shown interest in the services of the youngster, Aston Villa are reportedly lining up an offer for the striker which makes it a transfer war between West Brom and Aston Villa.

Obafemi still has less than two years on his contract with Southampton but he will likely make the jump if a good offer comes.
