In the midst of criticism against Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba, a new member of the Red Devils Bruno Fernandes says everyone expects from the Frenchman as they expect from Cristiano Ronaldo at Juventus or Lionel Messi at Barcelona.

Pogba joined Manchester United from Le Havre as a 16-year-old in 2009, before leaving for Juventus in 2012 and then returning to Old Trafford in 2016, for a then-world record transfer fee worth 105 million euros.

Since his arrival at the club in 2016, he has only managed to play for the club 99 times and scored 24 goals.

Also, he has only managed to win the League Cup and the Europa League for Manchester United since his record move to the Premier League side. The Frenchman has also managed to win only one personal honour which was in the 2018-19 season when he was named in the PFA Team of the Year.

However, the 2019-2020 season has been one of the worst seasons in the career of the 27-year-old Frenchman. He has been hit with a series of injuries which has made him unable to contribute to the progress of Manchester United.

This prompted Manchester United to sign Bruno Fernandes in January who has been a phenomenon in Old Trafford since he joined the Premier League side.

Pogba’s series of injuries this season has made him a subject of criticism from the fans who have been expecting more from the Manchester United midfielder. Even pundits like Graeme Souness would not allow the French international to breathe with criticisms.

But Fernandes told Manchester United‘s official website the otherwise of what critics have been bombarding Pogba with.

He said: “You can do good for 34 games, and one game you do bad and everyone will remember that.

“Paul is coming from a bad moment, because of the situation. When he played also, the club and the team was not good, because the expectations are high for Paul, because Paul is a top player and Manchester United pay a lot for him, and expectations are a lot for him.

“It’s normal when you are in that situation you don’t play like a superstar, because everyone expects from Paul as they expect from (Cristiano) Ronaldo at Juventus or (Lionel) Messi at Barcelona.

“Everyone expects this from Paul in Manchester, because they know he has the qualities for this. Also, this is confidence in Paul. The team, we have a lot of confidence in Paul.”
