Everton continue to falter in the 2023/24 Premier League season, as the ghosts of the past have begun to hunt them.

The Toffees have begun the season in nearly identical manner as they did under the tutelage of Frank Lampard in the 2022/23 season.

Under Lampard, they lost two games and drew one in their first three games of the season.

However, for Sean Dyche, it is even worse as they have been defeated in their first three games of the season.

They lost by a slim margin to Fulham in their first game of the season at Goodison Park, before losing 4-0 away at Villa Park.

In their recent game played on Saturday, August 26, 2023, they also fell to a 1-0 defeat against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Supporters of Everton have turned on the club, seeing their embarrassing start to the 2023/24 season.

The loss to Gary O’Neil’s side handed Wolves their first win of the season, having lost to Manchester United and Brighton in their first and second Matchday of the 2023/24 Premier League season.

Many fans of the Toffees trooped out of Goodison Park before full-time, as they couldn’t bear witnessing another humbling defeat.

For fans who remained in the stadium, boos were heard loudly from their part of the Turf as they turned on their players for their bad performances.

However, despite losing, it was evident that Everton were the superior side in terms of play as they dominated the action for major spells of the game.

Unfortunately, they couldn’t find the important goal as Arnaut Danjuma was a pedestrian in attack.

James Garner and James Tarkowski also got close to taking Sean Dyche’s side into the lead, before substitute Sasa Kalajdzic scored for Wolverhampton Wanderers in the 87th minute of the game.

The Toffees escaped relegation on the final day of the season, finishing 17th in the English Premier League.

Relegation battle specialist Sean Dyche demonstrated his tactical abilities and their season was saved by the whiskers.

However, only time will tell if this season will be disastrous enough to see them return to the Championship for the first time in 69 years.

Sean Dyche admits the need for improvement in attack by Everton

Sean Dyche has acknowledged the need for a striker, and despite signing youngster Chermiti, he noted that the Portuguese is not yet ripe for Premier League action.

Youssef Chermiti made his debut on Saturday, August 26, 2023, and he didn’t provide any spark of any sought.

Sean Dyche is seemingly losing the magic touch.

In July 2023, Sean Dyche bemoaned the poor turnout of goals by Everton, but he stressed that they would have to find different ways of scoring.

He said “A lack of goals is always a concern because you need to score to win games.

“We showed in the second half of the season that we needed to find different ways of scoring goals and we are going to have to do that going forwards. That is part of football.”

The Toffees face Doncaster Rovers next in the English Football League Cup, on Wednesday, August 30, 2023.

Everton then visit Bramall Lane on Saturday, August 2, 2023, to play Sheffield United in Matchday 4 of the Premier League season.
