Fulham manager Marco Silva believes the clampdown on time-wasting is helping the big teams, as he branded Calvin Bassey’s red card a joke.

The manager said, “The first yellow card for Calvin is a joke, and of course we understand the new circumstances.”

“They are taking all the emotion from the game because it is going to protect the big clubs because you have to see consistency in the decisions.”

“For sure, if you play for Fulham or for other clubs and take 10–15 seconds to take a throw-in or a goal kick, it will be a yellow card. A player will always be under pressure because if you make a foul, it will be a second yellow card.”

The defender received a yellow card after it took him so long to take a goal kick. He was awarded the second yellow card for bringing Eddie Nketiah down on the counterattack.

The English FA has decided to follow the World Cup’s lengthy extra minutes idea due to time-wasting tactics deployed by teams.

Fulham Andrea Pereira’s first-half goal gave Marco Silva men the lead due to a Bukayo Saka mistake.

It was the second-half goals from Bukayo Saka and Eddie Nketiah that put the team ahead in the second half.

However, Fulham were able to take one point from the London Derby after Joao Palhinha’s 87th-minute strike.

In addition, Marco Silva has also backed Arsenal to compete for the Premier League title at the end of the season.

The manager talked about how impressed he was with the addition of new players to the Arsenal side.

The Arsenal team has started with two wins and a draw.

Next up for Arsenal is a match against one of the big boys in the Premier League, Manchester United. It is expected to be a difficult match for the North London side.

After the match against the Red Devils, they face Everton, who defeated Arsenal at home last season.

Mikel Arteta’s team had been a force to be reckoned with in the Premier League due to their squad depth and individual ability. Although they lack consistency, which made them lose the title to Manchester City at the end of the season.

Towards the end of last season, they had three points in three games. Arsenal failed to defeat West Ham United, who were in the bottom half, and Southampton, who were in the 20th position.

Arteta is under pressure to win silverware this season due to the investment in new players. Hence, Arsenal may consider replacing the Spanish manager if they fail to win Silverwares in 2023/24 season.
