Manchester City and Germany national team midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has urged the Premier League club to get prepared for whatever would happen when football finally resumes.

Manchester City was fighting to overtake Liverpool football club on the league table before the coronavirus pandemic halted the 2019-2020 football season.

Liverpool which has been invincible all season long, was already at the verge of winning the Premier League title for the first time in 30 years before the season was suspended.

If the season finally resumes, Manchester City has to win at least 9 games out of its remaining 10 games while Liverpool drops at least 6 points in order to kill Liverpool’s dream of winning a Premier League title.

The odd of that happening is extremely slim but nothing is impossible in football. Hence, Gundogan believes that Manchester City still has the chance to defend the title they won last season.

Besides the Premier League, the Pep Guardiola’s boys are still very much on course to win their first Champions League title but they have to defeat Real Madrid by at least a goal to nill in their return leg. The club is also gunning for FA Cup title.

“Whatever comes we have to be ready for it,” Gundogan told BBC Radio 5 Live’s Friday Football Social. “It’s an extraordinary situation right now and extraordinary situations need extraordinary solutions.

“We see ourselves as top players and a top club and this is a chance for us to show that and deal with the situation as well as possible.

“It’s about when everything starts again but it doesn’t start when we are back in training (at the club), it has already started, that is how we should see it so that we can play in all these things and be ready for every competition.”

Gundogan has been playing for Manchester City since 2016. In 2019, the German international was instrumental in helping the Pep Guardiola’s boys to win treble – Premier League title, EFL Cup, and FA Cup.

In the outgoing season, Manchester City has already won the Carabao Cup but went into the coronavirus break on March 8 with a defeat in the hands of Manchester United.
