Premier League legend who featured in Old Trafford for years, Rio Ferdinand has called for the immediate cancelation of the 2019/2020 season due to coronavirus crisis.
Ferdinand has advised that the ongoing season which has been put on hold due to the outbreak of coronavirus be canceled and declared void. He urged Liverpool FC who is posed to win the league cup to prioritize the health conditions than their interest in winning the league.
Since the outbreak of coronavirus in Europe earlier this year, it has spelled a lot of doom every work of life, especially football. Football activities have witnessed a major set setback after major competitions have been suspended to stop the spread of the virus. Reasonably, clubs have lost a lot of money since the suspension started. While all these are going players of Liverpool Fc and fans all over the globe are hell-bent on lifting the Premier League Cup for the first time in distant memory.
“But we have to take into consideration football is just a game. As seriously as we all take it, the bigger picture is what is going on out in society.
“I’m sure in my own mind that if it’s not going to be an immediate fix in the next few weeks then the season needs to be voided and started again next season afresh.
Ferdinand stated that he knows many people would say his suggestions were prompted because he doesn’t want Liverpool to win the trophy or because he is not a Liverpool fan. He said: “A lot of people like Liverpool fans will always say, ‘Oh that’s because you don’t want Liverpool to win the league’.
“Listen, if my team was in that situation I would think about people’s health and the wider society rather than my own gain.
“And this is a situation where I think exactly the same no matter who’s going to go up, who’s potentially going to go down, who could have won the league and who could have finished in the Champions League positions.
“I think across the board, it’s much more clearer, black and white, and just void the season and start again afresh.
“And there are going to be people disappointed, and there are going to be people that are probably more satisfied with that.
“But whichever way you go you’re going to be disappointing people and there’s going to be people that are more happy with the situation when you do it.
“So not everyone can win in this situation and that’s just a fact.”
So, If the authorities should decide to yield Rio Ferdinand’s advice, what will be the fate of Liverpool FC who have invested all their efforts to ensure that they stay top at the league.
Meanwhile, all other continent competition has been postponed. The summer’s European Championships and Copa America have all been postponed till 2021. Similarly, Champions League and Europa League have been put on the probability to watch health improvement.
