Former Liverpool player Steven Gerrard compares Jordan Henderson to Paul Scholes

    Former Liverpool player, Steven Gerrard has given his opinion about the current skipper of the club Jordan Henderson for leading the team through tough times to become a major trophy contender.

    The former England and Liverpool skipper handed over to Jordan Henderson in 2015 and he seems not to be disappointed with his performance since he took the mantle. Gerrard left Anfield in 2015 and the captainship mantle was delivered to Jordan Henderson. At that time, he was considered a flop leading the team through some difficult process until the team is built to become a major trophy contender both in England and Europe as well.

    Gerrard identified some great and obvious similarities between Henderson and Manchester United legend Paul Scholes. The former Liverpool player and now Rangers FC boss highlighted some attributes in Paul Scholes that is quite eminent in Jordan Henderson. He stated that Henderson posses the great quality of controlling the flow of games and can do cause strategic damage to the opponent as when due just like Paul Scholes.

    Steven Gerrard revealed this during a chat with BT Sport, he said: “I think over the years he has developed parts of his game, his passing range is fantastic and he’s running games with control a bit like Paul Scholes used to do it.

    “He’s leading by example and he is always there for the team.”

    “It’s no surprise to me how he is handling himself on and off the pitch, obviously I played with him for numerous years for Liverpool and England.

    “Very fit, athletic boy who is very selfless in how he approaches his play on the pitch. He puts everyone else before himself and when you play alongside him you appreciate the job he does for the team.”

    Jordan Henderson has been a pivotal part of the Jurgen Klopp’s team since he was given the captainship band in 2015. He has helped the club grow from an ordinary contending team to trophy contenders. Within the 2018/19 season, he has led the team to Champions League UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup glory.

    Also, his 34 appearances for Liverpool this season have assisted the team to secure the first spot on the league table making them the potential winner of the Premier League for the first in a distant memory. However, their title race was interrupted by the outbreak of the novel Covid-19.

    Furthermore, Henderson has proved himself to be an elder sportsman through the establishment of ‘Players Together‘ an initiative that was launched by Premier League players to raise money for the fight of coronavirus in the United Kingdom.
