Manchester City playmaker Kevin De Bruyne has rated Liverpool’s Sadio Mane as his Premier League player of the season despite the suspension on football activities. The Belgian midfielder decided to look beyond club competition as he picked the Senegal attacker ahead of himself and his Manchester City teammates like Kun Aguero, David Silva and the likes to be named the best player in Premier League for the 2019/20 season.
The football suspension caused by the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic has hindered the Professional Football Association (PFA) awards that ought to take place on the 26 of April. The award has been postponed indefinitely by the coronavirus pandemic that is ravaging the world.
However, despite the uncompleted football season, De Bruyne would still name Sadio Mane as the best Premier League player for the season. According to him, Mane has been the total package for Liverpool this year.
De Bruyne revealed this to BT Sport when he was asked who he would be picked for the individual’s award, he did not hesitate to mention Sadio Mane. Quoting his words: “I would say, Mane. “I think he has been the total package this year for Liverpool.
“He has been important, so if I had to choose somebody, I would choose Mane.”
The Senegal international player has scored about 14 goals and nine assists in the Premier League before the season was interrupted by the novel Covid-19. Also, he has been an integral part of Jurgen Klopp’s team throughout their title challenge race this season.
Meanwhile, Kevin De Bruyne is also on the list of the favorite players for the award, he has scored a total of 25 goals and nine assists in Premier League games.
However, what is worthy of note is that the list of favorite players to win the award is largely dominated by Liverpool players. This can not be disjointed from the fact that the Reds are 25 points clear in top position before the interruption.
It is expected by many football critics that Sadio Mane is the most worthy Liverpool player to win the award this season due to his relentless effort and strategic contributions to the team. However, Liverpool captain, Jordan Henderson and recent winner Virgil can Dijk are also tipped to win the award.
