Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has revealed the one player Manchester United should keep at the club.
Rooney belongs to the camp of Man United legends and pundits who believe Erik ten Hag deserves to be cut some slacks amidst United’s poor campaign this season.
The pro-Erik ten Hag camp have disputed calls to have the Dutchman sacked as they blamed underperforming Man United players for the club’s quagmire.
According to them, United’s struggles is not solely a managerial problem to be dumped on the laps of Erik ten Hag but on individual players who have struggled for form.
While lashing out at other Man United players for not honoring the club’s badge with upbeat performances, Rooney absolved Bruno Fernandes from the deadwoods in the United squad.
According to him, Bruno Fernandes is the one player Manchester United should not toy with but keep at all costs.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Rooney said:
“You have to build the team around Bruno. He’s quality and has got fight in him, and then I think all the other players get rid of them.’
”I think you keep the young players, and you keep Bruno.
”I think it has to be a massive clearout. It has to be. It’s not going to be in one year, but I think it’s going to be in the next couple of years.”
Bruno Fernandes has been a standout performer for Manchester United this season despite the club’s disappointing campaign.
He has made 34 Premier League appearances for the club, scoring 10 goals with 8 assists. United’s new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is set to overhaul the squad this summer with a number of top first-team players set to be axed.
Bruno Fernandes was linked to a possible exit from the club before the Portuguese cleared the air on his future at Old Trafford.
”I am going nowhere. I am committed to this club,” Fernandes said.
United manager Erik ten Hag also confirmed Bruno Fernandes is not going anyway as he is key in his plans. While Rooney has backed potential and rumored exits from the club, he believes United still needs the services of Bruno Fernandes.
