Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood is closing in on his Manchester United return after the rape saga.
The embattled youngster came under wires and nearly have his Old Trafford career cut short when his girlfriend Harriet Robson accused him of rape, sexual assault, and coercive behavior.
On January 2022, Mason Greenwood was arrested and remanded in custody before being granted bail following the allegations.
Social media footage of scenes of the assault shared by Harriet Robson went viral sparking reactions.
He was suspended from Manchester United squad following his arrest pending the outcome of the investigations.
Greenwood also lost his sponsorship deal with Nike and was unfollowed by some of his teammates at Manchester United after the incident.
He was granted bail but rearrested in October 2022 for breaching bail conditions by making contact with the alleged victim.
After his rearrest, Mason Greenwood was arraigned in court and the date for his trial was finally determined. It was scheduled to hold on November 2023.
However, in a shock move by the Crown Prosecuting Service, CPS, all charges against Mason Greenwood were dropped on February, 2023.
CPS cited technical inconsistencies involving the withdrawal of key witnesses, making it difficult for the body to proceed with the investigation.
Mason Greenwood returned to his girlfriend after charges against him were dropped and we reported earlier he was expecting a baby from Harriet Robson after the rape and is ready to marry her.
Meanwhile, Manchester United were unmoved by the dropped charges and were bent on conducting their own investigation into the rape saga before taking a decision on Greenwood’s future at the club.
Greenwood has a contract with Manchester United until 2025 but his future at the club will be determined after the investigations.
He has been interviewed by the club amid the ongoing investigation but pressure has been mounting from Manchester United female team that Greenwood should not be allowed back into the squad.
Manchester United reject offers for Mason Greenwood
The future of Mason Greenwood at Manchester United is on a knife edge. The youngster has been pushing earnestly to return to action but must await the outcome of the investigation by Manchester United.
Meanwhile, the Athletic has reported offers have come in from Turkey for Mason Greenwood but Manchester United have rejected them.
Now, sources close to Manchester United have revealed Mason Greenwood is nearing his return to Manchester United after the rape saga.
If Manchester United finally give the nod for Greenwood to return, it will be the first time he will be back to action since he last played for the club in a Premier League game against West Ham on January 2022.
