Greater Manchester Police have arrested Manchester United forward, Mason Greenwood for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend, Harriet Robson.
Since the exhibits hit the internet, there has been a series of backlash against the footballer on social media which forced him to deactivate his Instagram comment section.
Greenwood and Harriet have been dating each other since they were in high school. Since then, the relationship has been waxing strong until 2020 when the relationship broke down.
Harriet abandoned the relationship for two months when Mason Greenwood and Phil Foden of Manchester City sneaked in two Icelandic girls into their hotel room when they were on international duty with the Three Lions of England.
The scandal forced Phil Foden and Mason Greenwood out of England squad for a while before coach Gareth Southgate decided to return Foden to the team. As for Greenwood, he has not been invited back to the team since then.
To make matters worst for Greenwood, he would have to stay away from professional football for a while for assaulting his girlfriend. A statement from Greater Manchester Police confirmed that the footballer has been arrested on suspicion of rape and assault.
The statement read: “Greater Manchester Police were made aware earlier today of online social media images and videos posted by a woman reporting incidents of physical violence.
“An investigation was launched and following inquiries, we can confirm a man in his 20s has since been arrested on suspicion of rape and assault. He remains in custody for questioning. Inquiries are ongoing.”
Also, a statement from Manchester United have confirmed that Greenwood has been suspended indefinitely over the rape and assault allegations linked to the footballer.
“Mason Greenwood will not return to training or play matches until further notice,” a statement from Manchester United read.
Before things went this bad for Greenwood, the 20-year-old football star has scored 6 goals and provided two assists in 24 games in all competitions for Manchester United this season.
The out-of-favor England international who has played for the Three Lions of England once, has until June 30, 2025, before his contract with Manchester United expires.
