Jamie Carragher congratulated Manchester City on their Premier League title victory, but couldn’t help but engage in a Twitter spat with Liam Gallagher.
After going behind 2-0 at home to Aston Villa, City had to dig deep to win the Premier League title. City, on the other hand, produced a stunning comeback to grab the league from Liverpool with three goals in five minutes.
It’s City’s fourth trophy in five years, and the second time they’ve beaten Liverpool by the tiniest of margins.
After going behind against Wolves, Liverpool was forced to do things the hard way as well. Liverpool won thanks to goals from Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah, with Salah believing he had secured the title at one point.
Carragher insists that despite their unprecedented quadruple dreams being dashed, Liverpool can still be happy of their efforts.
“Great achievement, it really is. Pep Guardiola seemed to be pretty emotional. In some ways, they wouldn’t have wanted to go through what they have today, but sometimes that makes it sweeter,” Carragher told Sky Sports when asked about City’s title win.
“They had that Sergio Aguero moment, and this isn’t far behind. With City’s current situation, it was always going to be difficult [for Liverpool], but credit to Liverpool. If it weren’t for Liverpool, City would have a cakewalk every year.
“As I previously stated, there would be a party atmosphere here no matter what. However, the unexpected nature of today’s events is the reason it feels a touch flat. You must congratulate them because champions do so.”
Carragher hails Liverpool
Over the course of the season, Liverpool was undone by eight draws and two defeats.
Even so, they still have a chance to win the Champions League on Saturday.
That was the circumstance in 2019, when Manchester City beat them to the title. The club won the Champions League a week later, defeating Tottenham in the final.
“We’ve been in this position before, but it’s tough,” Carragher remarked, referring to the match against Real Madrid. “Unfortunately, it was insufficient.
“We can’t have too many problems; we did everything all season till the very final day. We would have bitten your hand off if you had said we’d be here in January. I’m proud of the boys, but the game isn’t over yet; we have another game next week.”
Liam Gallagher and Jamie Carragher had a Twitter feud
Despite his praise for City, the Sky Sports pundit couldn’t resist but engage in a hilarious Twitter debate with Liam Gallagher.
The former Oasis leader and vocalist is a huge City supporter who frequently displays his feelings on social media.
Gallagher couldn’t help himself when City pipped Liverpool to the Premier League title.
“What are you saying, Carragher, you b**lend?” Gallagher tweeted.
Carragher, on the other hand, did not take the insult lying down and glared angrily at the Tweet.
“I’m saying you’ll never win the Champions League, and Oasis are s***e compared to the Beatles,” Jamie Carragher replied. “Does that work?”
Gallagher didn’t stop there, however, and went on a Twitter rant about Liverpool’s and Oasis’ triumphs this season.
