Manchester City have been crowned champions of the 2021-2022 Premier League campaign for the second successive season in front of their home fans. They won the league after surviving a great scare from a resilient coach Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa on the last day of the campaign.
Coach Pep Guardiola and his boys came from two goals down to show that they are worthy champions by scoring three stunning goals in the second half to take the lead.

During the thrilling encounter, the visitors stunned City with the opening goal to silence the Etihad stadium, thanks to Matty Cash’s 37th-minute strike.
The silence and the tension aggravated in the 69th minute when former Liverpool forward, Philippe Coutinho doubled Aston Villa’s lead.
As champions that they are, City players did not give up. They fought until in the 76th minute when Ilkay Gundogan pulled one back. The goal ignited City to go for the equalizer which they did, thanks to Rodri’s 78th-minute strike.
At that point, the second-placed Liverpool were playing 1-1 with Wolves at Anfield stadium which meant that City were topping the table on goal difference. Hence, the fans of both Manchester City and Liverpool anxiously waited for the team that would take the lead in the different match venues.
To quench the heated tension at the Etihad and Anfield Stadiums, Gundogan stepped up to become the hero by scoring his second of the match and the match-winner in the 81st minute.
After Gundogan’s goal, Liverpool scored their second and third goals in the 84th and 89th minutes respectively thanks to strikes from Mohamed Salah and Andrew Robertson. Hence, Liverpool beat stubborn Wolves 3-1 but the win was inconsequential.
This is so because Manchester City also beat Aston Villa 3-2 at the Etihad Stadium which was enough to help Pep Guardiola and his boys finish top on the league table to be crowned champions of the Premier League.
Hence, Manchester City won the 2021-2022 Premier League title with 93 points in 38 games. While Liverpool finished second with 92 points in 38 games, a point below the league champions.
Based on this, coach Jurgen Klopp and his boys will not be able to achieve the dream of winning the quadruple this season since City have been crowned champions of the league.
However, Liverpool still have the chance of winning three titles this season. They have a date with Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League final in Paris on May 28. They have already won the EFL Cup and the FA Cup this season.
