Ralf Rangnick expressed optimism on the club’s prospects moving forward, although Manchester United’s loss to Crystal Palace on the final day of the season highlighted the monumental challenge that awaits their new manager Erik ten Hag.

Despite suffering a loss of 1-0 on Sunday, United has clinched a position in the Europa League for the upcoming season. This was made possible since West Ham United finished in seventh place after suffering a 3-1 defeat at Brighton & Hove Albion.

According to what Ralf Rangnick said to the press, “I think Brighton did us a favor to turn the game around. They were behind by one goal going into the break, but they scored three times in the second half. We would have been thrilled to have been able to look after ourselves.”

United finished their season with 58 points, which is the fewest points the club has ever accumulated in the Premier League, which led to Rangnick’s resignation as interim manager. Since their victory in the Europa League in 2017, they have not been able to claim another title.

United will have a new manager for the upcoming season in the form of Dutchman Ten Hag, and Rangnick stated that the full scope of the club’s issues was known before Sunday’s loss.

“Before we played that game, we were aware of the amount of labor that lays ahead”, the outgoing coach said.

Speaking further, Rangnick noted that he is hopeful and positive about the situation at the club. “With the new manager, and Erik is a top manager, together with our board and with our scouting department we can make sure that we get the necessary reinforcements, the players that help to raise the level of quality again”, the coach said.

“This is something that we can do now that we have the new manager, and Erik is a top manager.
