He is Not Going to be Erling Haaland,” – Gary Neville on Rasmus Hojlund

Manchester United legend and pundit Gary Neville has offered a brutal assessment of Man United striker Rasmus Hojlund.

According to the football pundit, Rasmus Hojlund is not going to become the next ‘Aguero’ or ‘Haaland’ in the Premier League although he is still a prospective top striker.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Neville said: “I think this is a kid that needs persevering with. I looked at Ollie Watkins before. He’s not going to become a Haaland or an Aguero, one of the great strikers in Premier League history, I don’t think.

Hojlund finally broke his goal deadlock for Manchester United in January 2024. He went on to score seven times for the Red Devils in six games but has struggled to add to the tally going forward.

The purple patch of form was shortlived with the forward back to his scoreless streak. Notably, he has been a casualty of United’s piling injury crisis this season.

While a grueling injury crisis has the Danish forward some slacks, he has obviously failed to live up to the bidding as a £72m.

Just like Ten Hag’s other expensive signings such as Antony and Casemiro who have fallen off the pecking order, Rasmus Hojlund falls into the category of unproductive expensive signings this season and will have to up his game next season to justify the club’s transfer spend on his head.

However, the likes of Gary Neville have pointed out that United fans may not have to expect much from the young striker.

According to him, Rasmus Hojlund is a prospective big attacking talent for United but may not rise to the levels of elite Premier League forwards like Sergio Aguero and Erling Haaland.

Gary Neville’s take is apparently another indictment of Ten Hag’s decision to splash out £72m for the player based on his age and experience. Neville believes Hojlund would have best harnessed his talent playing alongside top and experienced strikers like Harry Kane, who Erik ten Hag wanted to go for but was phased out by Tottenham Hotspur’s demand for the player.
