Harry Maguire has made the headlines for his horrible mistake during Ukraine Vs England 2024 Euro qualifying match on Saturday, 9th of September.

The former Leicester City defender was included in the Three Lions starting XI as England went to the game with a hundred percent record.

Maguire, 30, started his first match of the season as Gareth Southgate’s men took on Ukraine and made the headlines for glaring blunders.

The Manchester United defender played all 90 minutes of the game as England dropped their first points in the Euro 2024 qualification.

Though Gareth Southgate’s team remains atop Group C, the result is viewed as a major disappointment given the team’s missed opportunity to continue on their perfect run.

Fans attacked Harry Maguire for a terrible mistake

During the match, England conceded first through Arsenal player Oleksandr Zinchenko in the 26th minute of play before Kyle Walker scored to make it 1-1 towards the end of the first half.

However, the Ukrainian goal appears to be cheap with fans believing that Harry Maguire was to be blamed for a disastrous performance.

He was clearly out of position, marking his own defense partner Marc Guehi, instead of defending the opponent.

Harry Maguire went viral for the terrible mistake and he was accused falsely in the aftermath of the Three Lions conceding.

One supporter noticed the scene and wrote; “Harry Maguire man-marked his own teammate, which led to open space and Ukraine’s goal”.

Maguire sends a message to fans

After the match, the Manchester United center-back took to his Instagram page with a particular post unhappy reaction message.

He wrote on his Instagram; “Of course, we want more but it’s an important point towards a qualification, Thanks for your support, see you Tuesday”.

It was clear that he was keeping his head up in preparation for the following game despite having made a blunder.

A fan was quick to comment on the post, interrogating the defender if he managed to find Guehi or was just marking his teammate.

Due to the fast-paced nature of football, the still photographs currently making the rounds online may not do justice to Harry Maguire’s purported blunder in the game.

However, Maguire has been a household name, especially among Man United fans for everything unsolicited of a professional football defender.

He has further drifted down the pecking order at Old Trafford under Erik Ten Hag who has reiterated Maguire’s performance is far below below elite level defenders like Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez

England started the game with the upper hand in terms of possession, but Ukraine took the lead with the game’s first attempt on target when Oleksandr Zinchenko of Arsenal scored on a breakaway down the right side.

England were able to draw level when Manchester City defender Kyle Walker scored his first international goal on his 77th cap, finishing in the area off Harry Kane’s brilliant long pass after the Three Lions fell behind early.

England upped their pace after halftime but couldn’t find the last pass to secure all three points, with Bukayo Saka hitting the post and Harry Maguire missing multiple chances from set pieces.
