Europa League: Liverpool Bow Out, Bayer Leverkusen Maintain Unbeaten Run In All Competitions

Liverpool and West Ham failed to over turn their first leg deficits in the Europa League against Atalanta and Bayer Leverkusen, respectively.

Liverpool’s seventh-minute penalty was not enough to help the Reds qualify for the semi-finals of the tournament against Atalanta.

West Ham United scored a 13th-minute goal but couldn’t find a goal in the second half, with Bayer Leverkusen’s right back Frimpong scoring the equalizer for the current Champions of the Bundesliga.

AS Roma continue their impressive form in the Europa League since the sacking of Jose Mourinho. They qualify for the semi-finals of the tournament after defeating AC Milan on aggregate score of 3-1.

Olympic Marseille qualified for the Europa League semi-finals after defeating Portuguese giant Benfica through a penalty shootout. World Cup winners Angel Di Maria and Benfica’s striker Antonio Silva missed their spot kicks.

Atalanta (0-1) Liverpool

Liverpool were given a penalty in the fifth minute of the game. Mohamed Salah stepped forward to put Liverpool in the driving seat against Atalanta.

Atalanta almost had a goal in the 14th minute of the game, but Alisson’s quick reaction saved the ball from going into the net.

Atalanta had the ball at the back of the net, but it was immediately ruled out for offside by the referee.

Liverpool had a chance in the 55th minute of the second half, but they weren’t clinical enough. Mohamed Salah missed a glorious chance to score Liverpool’s second goal due to the fact that his attempt weren’t strong enough.

Despite making three changes before the end of the game, the Liverpool side failed to score the second goal of the game. 

Atalanta qualify for the semi finals of the Europa League on aggregate score of 3-1. The Liverpool side will now focus on winning the Premier League at the end of the season, with six more matches to play.

The Liverpool players will have to play with all their strength to ensure their beloved manager doesn’t leave the side with only the Carabao Cup at the end of the season.

Marseille (1-0) Benfica

The breakthrough came for Olympic Marseille in the 79th minute of the game, with the substitute Moumbagna scoring a beautiful goal.

The Olympic Marseille team fought to the end and successfully qualified for the semi-finals of the tournament through a penalty shootout.

Marseille scored all four penalties, while Benfica’s Angel Di Maria and Antonio Silva missed their penalties. 

For Olympic Marseille, it was an excellent achievement to qualify for the semi-finals of the Europa League after issues of inconsistency in Ligue 1.

Roma (2-1) AC Milan

AS Roma scored the opening goal in the 12th minute of the match, with Mancini pouncing on the rebounce to put AS Roma ahead.

Former Chelsea player Loftus Cheek hit the crossbar with a powerful shot. Paulo Dybala scored the second goal for AS Roma in the 22nd minute of the game.

Zeki Celik was sent off after his horrible tackle on Rafael Leao. AS Roma played the remaining minute of the match with 10 men.

AC Milan scored a goal in the 85th minute of the second half through Gabbia. However, that was not enough for AC Milan to qualify for the next round of the tournament.

Despite AS Roma playing with ten men for a long duration of the game, they were well composed in the defense. The Daniele De Rossi men were able to stop the threat from Rafael Leao and Christian Pulisic.

AS Roma qualify for the next round of the tournament via an aggregate score of 3-1. The AS Roma team will face the current Champions of the Bundesliga, Bayer Leverkusen, in the semi finals of the tournament.

West Ham (1-1) Bayer Leverkusen 

Bayer Leverkusen had their first shot on target through Tella, whose attempt on goal was palmed away by West Ham goalkeeper Fabianski.

West Ham went ahead in the 13th minute of the game with a beautiful header from Antonio. West Ham also had the second goal, but Antonio Antonio’s attempt was not enough to beat Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Kovar.

West Ham had another attempt on goal, with Jarrod Bowen’s attempt being saved by Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Kovar.

In the 60th minute of the match, Bowen missed a glorious chance to score the second goal of the game. 

Bayer Leverkusen, right back Frimpong missed a huge chance to equalize for the German giant, but he was not clinical enough.

Bayer Leverkusen scored the equalizer through Jeremie Frimpong in the 89th minute to maintain their unbeaten run this season. 

West Ham will now focus on securing a 6th-place finish in the Premier League in order to qualify for next season’s Europa League.

The team needs to improve significantly in the Premier League if they want to finish above the other teams in the race for European football next season.

Bayer Leverkusen, on the other hand, are looking forward to winning the treble at the end of the season after securing the Bundesliga title, qualifying for the German Cup finals, and making it to the last four in the Europa League.
