Barcelona president Joan Laporta has confirmed Frenkie de Jong will stay at the club amid renewed interest by European rivals.

Manchester United have been on the trail of Frenkie De Jong since Erik ten Hag took over the club as new manager in 2022.

Barcelona have been oscillating on their decision to keep or sell Frenkie de Jong as they grapple with dwindling financial fortunes.

In 2022, reports emerged the club have reached an agreement with Manchester United to part ways with the player but De Jong turned down an exit from the Catalan giants.

Much of the drama around Frenkie de Jong’s future at the club has been Barcelona’s double-faced gesture on the player.

The Catalan giants publicly ruled out selling the player but were internally ready to let him off the hook to assuage their dwindling financial fortunes.

It is no news that Frenkie de Jong wants to stay in Barcelona but there have been reports of renewed interest from Manchester United.

United manager Erik ten Hag is still bent on having the Dutch sensation added to the depth of his midfield options. However, such a move is likely to suffer a fresh blow.

In a quote by Barcelona president Joan Laporta, Frenkie de Jong is keen on staying at Barcelona and does not want to leave the club.

Laporta added he is happy to keep Frenkie de Jong and is not open to letting him leave soon.

“Frenkie de Jong is super happy here. The last thing he wants is leaving Barcelona”.

“He always told me that he loves to be at Barça and we’re delighted with Frenkie too”.

“I’m not worried with his future, at all”, told MD.

De Jong is still considered key to the Barcelona squad. He has made 19 LaLiga appearances for the club with 2 goals this season, including 3 Champions League and 2 Spanish Super Cup appearances.

The Dutch midfield sensation has two years left on his Barcelona contract and has reportedly agreed to ditch his original contract terms, which made him the highest-paid player, due to the club’s precarious financial situation.

As things stand, it appears De Jong is more likely to extend his contract with the club instead of a potential exit.
