Liverpool’s Premier League title hopes suffered a setback as they dropped two points at Old Trafford against Manchester United.

Before the matchday 31 clash against Manchester United, Arsenal had chalked off Liverpool’s two-point lead on the table with an emphatic 3-0 victory over Brighton.

The Reds needed nothing less from victory to restore the two-point lead and return to the summit of the table.

It ended in a deadlock at Old Trafford for the Merseyside club, and they even had to struggle to salvage a late draw against a resilient Man United side.

Bruno Fernandes had canceled out Luis Diaz’s early goal before Kobbie Mainoo scored a sensational goal to put United in front against the run of play.

Liverpool survived defeat at death, thanks to a late controversial spot-kick conceded by Aaron Wan-Bissaka after he clipped down Harvey Elliot in the box.

Mohamed Salah scored from the spot to salvage a point for the visitors as it ended 2-2 after the final whistle.

The draw has seen the Reds slip off the top spot on the Premier League table with Arsenal now leading the race with 71 points.

In a quote shared on the club’s social media handle, Jurgen Klopp made a bold statement on the Premier League title race, insisting the Reds are strongly in the race and had expected such tricky outcomes in this crucial stage of the campaign.

“We are who we are. We are how we are. That is why we are in the race and I am absolutely fine with that. I knew it would be super-tricky until the end.”

Liverpool have the same number of points as Arsenal but are second on the table with a lesser goal difference.

The Reds will hope to return to winning ways when they take on Crystal Palace on Sunday, April 14 after hosting Atalanta in Europa League semifinal first-leg on Thursday, April 11.

The exit-bound German boss will hope to bid farewell with a treble but is likely to face a tough run to win the domestic title with Arsenal and Manchester City strongly in the race.
