The El-Clasico has been one of the most anticipated football rivalries in the world. Pitting two of the best Football Clubs in LaLiga, fans don’t usually get enough of the cracker with five-star performances and tactical finesse lit with sensational individual displays.

However, it appears Real Madrid have rewritten the narrative of the LaLiga classic from a tightly-contested Spanish rivalry to a drab and dour contest easily aced by the Madrid-based outfit.

The most recent meetings between the two giants attest to the assertion above. Barcelona seemed to be losing gears in the age-long rivalry. They have lost their last three meetings to the Los Blancos.

This season, Real Madrid have completed a double over the Catalan giants to boast their push for the LaLiga title.

The Los Blancos went to Estadio Olimpico and snatched a 2-1 win over the LaLiga champions. Xavi Hernandez had a chance to harvest a pound of flesh against the LaLiga title hopefuls in the reverse fixture on Sunday, April 21 but it ended in another capitulation.

Barcelona went ahead twice through Christensen and Fermin Lopez but were pegged back twice by the visitors through Vinicius Jr and Lucas.

Jude Bellingham, who netted a brace in the reverse fixture early in the season, was on target again with another late winner as the Los Blancos sealed a 3-2 victory to extend the lead at the LaLiga top.

According to OneFootball, it was the third time in almost four decades (39 years) that Real Madrid have completed a LaLiga double against Barcelona.

The report adds Real Madrid first attained the feat in the 2007/08 season before repeating it in the 2020/21 season, and now the 2023/24 season.

Notably, Real Madrid’s recent dominance over Barcelona is not enough of a yardstick or measure of the quality of the El-Clasico.

It is understood the two clubs are sharing contrasting fortunes on the domestic and European scene this season. While the Los Blancos have been on the ascendancy this season, the reverse has been the case for Barcelona.
