Manchester City loanee to Barcelona Joao Cancelo has revealed he received death threats online after Barcelona lost the Champions League quarterfinal second leg to PSG.

The Catalans went to Parc Des Princes and pulled an upset, defeating the Ligue 1 giants 3-2 in the first leg to go into the second leg at home with a slim advantage.

However, it turned out a nightmare for the LaLiga giants at home as they stumbled to a shock defeat at home to the French champions.

They had comfortably raced into the lead after Raphinha slotted home Lamine Jamal’s cross. The game changed drastically when Ronald Araujo saw a red card for a clumsy challenge on Barcola.

PSG equalised before the break and went on to put the LaLiga champions to rout, scoring three goals in the second half.

One of the goals came from a spot kick which was caused by Joao Cancelo’s challenge on Ousmane Dembele.

Speaking to ESPN after the game, Cancelo revealed he has received death threats from irate fans for conceding the penalty.

He also added the death threats have been directed at him and his family, including his unborn baby.

”There are comments on Instagram wishing death upon my daughter who’s not even been born yet.

“They would not say it to my face, because we would have a problem, but in the comments, they write what they want.

”Wishing death upon a baby is really serious. People don’t think about the person behind the footballer they see on the television. We are humans, too. We are just the same.”

Away from the nightmare loss to PSG in the Champions League, Joao Cancelo has been impressive on his loan shift with Barcelona.

The loan contract is set to expire at the end of the season with reports the club is ready to extend the loan deal and keep the player and his Portugal compatriot Joao Felix beyond this season.
