French footballing sensation Karim Benzema has returned to Real Madrid almost a year after leaving the club.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the former Real Madrid forward and Ballon d’Or winner is returning to Santiago Bernabeu for medical reasons.

Reportedly nursing an injury, the 36-year-old traveled from the oil-rich Gulf state to Spain for medical tests and diagnosis due to the injury, per Fabrizio Romano.

“Karim Benzema has returned to Real Madrid training ground Valdebebas to undergo further tests and get help with injury treatment. “Al Ittihad confirm they’re grateful to Real Madrid for their help in managing Benzema’s injury,” Fabrizio Romano wrote on X.

It is the first time the prolific forward has touched down in Spain’s capital after he left Real Madrid following a legendary nine-year career in the Spanish topflight.

It is understood Al-Ittihad officials have approved the medical trip to help get the striker back to his feet as the club brace for the final round of matches for the season.

Benzema has struggled to recreate his magical goalscoring form at the Saudi outfit. He has scored 10 goals with 7 assists in 23 matches across all competitions. With two years left on his contract, reports were already linking the French footballer to a return to Europe following his dwindling fortunes in the Saudi elite division.

However, he debunked the report, affirming his resolve to run out his three-year contract with the club. On his form, Benzema attributed the temporary setback to his struggles to adapt to a new footballing terrain and added he will be at full length with his abilities in subsequent matches.
