Former Manchester United defender, Rio Ferdinand has urged Liverpool football club to sign Borussia Dortmund striker, Erling Haaland.

According to the former England international, there is always a hole at the center of Liverpool’s attack which Erling Haaland could fill.

Ferdinand believes that Haaland would not struggle to adapt at Liverpool even though the system of the Premier League club is completely different from that of Borussia Dortmund.

Liverpool have been using a front three that has been described as one of the most deadly attacks in club football. The attack line consists of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, and Sadio Mane.

These three forwards have won Liverpool the UEFA Champions League, the Premier League, the Super Cup, the FIFA Club World Cup, and made the Premier League side a team to beat.

But in recent times, the combination has not been so effective and Salah seems to be getting most of the goals despite playing as a winger.

Hence, Ferdinand believes that Haaland who is free to join any club of his choice next summer for as low as £64million might be a great addition to Jurgen Klopp’s squad.

He however noted that if the 21-year-old striker joins Liverpool, Salah is likely to score fewer goals.

Despite urging Liverpool to sign the Norwegian striker, the former Manchester United star said Haaland is most likely to join Manchester City than any other Premier League side.

“If I was Liverpool I would take him right now,” Ferdinand told BT Sport.

“If he goes to Liverpool it’s a devastating front three. I don’t think it’s as hard for him to adapt if he goes to Liverpool. It’s a different system.

“Jack Grealish has gone to Manchester City and he is a top player and we all love him but it’s been quite hard to adapt and get into that team.

“But when Liverpool are at their best they kind of leave a hole up front in the middle for the runs to come inside. I’m not sure Salah would get as many goals if Haaland was in the team.

“It’s an unbelievable prospect but I think Manchester City would be the likely destination.”

Erling Haaland. who is currently battling with an injury was not available to prevent Borussia Dortmund from crashing out of this season’s UEFA Champions League.

Most pundits believe that the fact that Dortmund are no longer in the Champions League could force Haaland to switch club either during the January transfer window or next summer.

Many clubs have already lined up for his signature including Manchester United, Manchester City, Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, and Chelsea.

Though it is not clear where the Norway international would move to if he decides to leave Dortmund next year, he would most likely join a team that will guarantee him regular playing time and titles.

Haaland’s current contract with Dortmund will officially expire on June 30, 2024.
