Recall that for almost a season, Real Madrid have been very interested in the services of Erling Haaland. The club is ready to do anything possible to bring him to Spain next summer.
But there are doubts among top members of the club’s board over the possibility of the 21-year-old Norwegian striker leaving Dortmund for Real Madrid.
According to a British publication, The Sun, a Spanish journalist, Josep Pedrerol, claimed that: “Real Madrid assumes that Haaland will play in England next year and they have it ruled out.”
Contrary to the assertion of the journalist, the president of Real Madrid, Florentino Perez had recently asserted that he hoped to bring both Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid.
Recall that Mbappe has been the major target of Real Madrid over the years. The Frenchman is also very interested in signing for Madrid. However, his current club, Paris Saint Germain are not willing to allow him to leave anytime soon.
Hence, Real Madrid are banking on the fact that the contract of the Frenchman with PSG would expire on June 30, 2022, which means that the Spanish side would be able to sign Mbappe on a free transfer.
As for Erling Haaland, the Norwegian football sensation still has three seasons left on his contract with Borussia Dortmund. However, a clause on his contract with Dortmund permits him to join any club of his choice that can pay the German club £64million next summer.
When Florentino Perez was asked who he would choose between Mbappe and Haaland, the football administrator said: “Which one do I choose to build a new project? I take both without a doubt.
“At Real Madrid, there are always the best players in the world. Florentino will bring them both back.”
Some football enthusiasts believe that it might be difficult for Haaland to agree to join Real Madrid since Mbappe is on the verge of joining the club. Both players are seen as the future of football and they enjoy playing as center-forwards.
On the contrary, reports in Madrid claimed that Real Madrid intend to build the future of the team around three strike forces comprising Vinicius Junior, Haaland, and Mbappe.

But if the recent update that Real Madrid are on the verge of giving up on their interest in Haaland is anything to go by, Manchester United and Chelsea would become the two top choices left for Haaland.
Manchester City are said to also be interested in the Norwegian striker but pundits believe that the race for the signature of Haaland would be between Chelsea and Manchester United next summer if Real Madrid bow out.
