Bayern Munich‘s contract with David Alaba will expire in June 2021 and the 28-year-old versatile defender has refused to extend the contract with the German club. According to reports, the Bundesliga champions offered the Austria international €15 million per year deal but he rejected it which has opened the door for clubs outside the Bundesliga to fight for his services.

Recent reports are speculating that the defender who is used mostly as a left-sided center-back, would most likely join a Premier League club in less than 14 days from the time of publishing this report.

Earlier in the summer, Manchester City had a strong interest in the Bayern Munich’s star. The Premier League club wanted to include him in the deal that saw their 24-year-old Leroy Sane joined Bayern Munich but the attempt failed. However, City might not mind making another offer for the Austrian.

Meanwhile, Manchester United and Chelsea football club are said to be very much interested in the versatile defender but no concrete talks would be held until when Bayern’s campaign in the ongoing UEFA Champions League in Lisbon is over.

David Alaba’s team is currently in the semi-final stage of the competition. The team will play against French Ligue 1 side Lyon tonight. If Bayern scale through the French club, they will play in the final against Paris Saint Germain on August 23. After then, Alaba will be allowed to concentrate on his next move.

David Alaba has been playing for Bayern Munich since 2008 when he joined the club from an Austrian club Vienna for just €150 thousand. Since then, he has won 8 Bundesliga, 5 DFB-Pokal, one DFL-Supercup, one UEFA Champions League, one UEFA Super Cup, and one FIFA Club World Cup. In all these competitions, the 28-year-old versatile footballer was instrumental in ensuring that Bayern Munich came out victorious.

The versatility of David Alaba would make any club to long for him. Though in recent times, he is used as a left-sided center-back, he can play perfectly as a left-back and can play in the midfield. Another plus about him is that he can score free kicks.

He knows how important he has been in the set-up of the current Bayern Munich side that is on the verge of winning their third trophy in the 2019-2020 season. This is why he rejected the €15 million per year deal Bayern Munich offered him.

He wants to earn as much as the club’s top earners Thomas Muller and Robert Lewandowski who reportedly earn €16 million and €20 million per year respectively. According to reports, David Alaba is presently on €10 million per year deal.

Though the financial aspect of the Bayern Munich’s star might discourage most clubs to seek for his services, yet, any club that wants a defensive-minded player who can hold on to the ball, can pass perfectly, can take direct free-kicks and can also dribble, the answer is David Alaba.
