Though they say ‘never say never’ in football, yet, with the triumph of Bayern Munich over its arch-rival Borussia Dortmund, the club has sealed its seventh-straight German Bundesliga title win and it is almost delivered to the undisputed champions.
Before Bayern faced Dortmund in what many described as the title decider, on Tuesday, May 26, 2020, one hand of the club was already on the trophy because Dortmund was 4 points closer to the table-toppers. But now that Bayern successfully defeated their closest rival in the prolonged 2019-2020 season by a lone goal, both hands of the club can be said to be on the trophy.
With 6 matches left to play, Bayern Munich is relatively sitting comfortably on the league table with 64 points, 7 points more than second-placed Borussia Dortmund. Besides the point, Bayern also has superior goals different of 13 goals with an equal number of games played.
In fact, as it stands, Bayern is not the major problem of Dortmund, RB Leipzig which currently has 54 points as against Dortmund’s 57 should be the club’s biggest challenge. This is so because Leipzig has played one match lesser than Dortmund and the club has one goal more than the second-placed Dortmund.
Hence, once Leipzig wins its outstanding match, the club will be on equal point with Dortmund and take over the second spot on goals difference.
As for Bayern Munich, the club has to lose three matches out of their 6 remaining fixtures to lose out on the title race. While Dortmund and Leipzig must win all their remaining fixtures to stand a chance of winning the title.
For Bayern to even draw more than one match based on their current form since the 2019-2020 season restarted in Germany is almost impossible going by the calibre of teams they will have to face.
The only real test Bayern still has to face is Borussia Mönchengladbach which is still very much in the title race as the club sits in the 4th position with 53 points in 28 games. Another game which is relatively a big challenge is the one against 5th place Bayer Leverkusen.
All these are matches Bayern can win convincingly on a good day, hence, it would not be a misplaced judgement to say it is a walk in the park for the club.
So, at this juncture, it safe to say the chain Bayern Munich started in 2012-2013 season would not break this season. Since the coronavirus pandemic which halted the season for about two months, could not stop Bayern, then, no club can stop Bayern this season.
