West Ham United is one of the lucky survivors of the Premier League last season. Though the East London club showed some brilliance against bigger opponents, the club was not consistent enough to compete for anything tangible throughout the season.
At the end of the season, West Ham lost 19 Premier League games, drew 9, and won ten which was enough for them to finish 16th on the Premier League table. The club survived the drop with just 5 points away from the relegation zone.
The manager of West Ham United, David Moyes, and his boys have one major job this season, not to make West Ham’s fans so scared of losing their team to Championship or battle for survival like in the 2019-2020 Premier League season.
The mission to avoid such a tension-filled 2020-2021 season started for West Ham on September 12 when they hosted Newcastle at London Stadium. Contrary to fans’ expectations, West Ham lost the match 2-0.
Moyes and his boys picked up themselves in the EFL Cup on September 15 against Charlton. West Ham won the Championship side 3-0. But their return to Premier League football on September 19 against Arsenal brought back the state of panic as they lost 2-1 at the Emirates Stadium.
Their succor came again in the third round of the EFL Cup on September 22. They bashed Hull City 5-1 to scale through to the next round. West Ham maintained the winning mentality when they hosted Wolves in the Premier League on September 27. The meeting ended 4-0 in favor of the host.
