Tyrell Malacia has confirmed that he would rather join Premier League giants Manchester United than sign for Lyon of France.
Despite Lyon having advanced in their negotiations to sign the Feyenoord player, United made a bid for him earlier this week and offered a sum of €15m plus add-ons to seal the deal.
Lyon had earlier made an offer of €12 million with add-ons to bring the total to €15 million, but United acted after reaching an agreement in principle with Barcelona to acquire Frenkie de Jong for a €65 million guaranteed initial cost.
The comparatively low guaranteed price for the midfielder has allowed United to immediately invest another portion of their money after waiting to learn how much they would be committed to the deal for De Jong.
Malacia’s desired destination is believed to be United, despite Lyon’s late rush to boost their offer.
Malacia’s personal terms have not yet been worked out, but they shouldn’t be a problem. The De Jong agreement is likewise almost done, as Malacia and De Jong are both represented by the same firm.
The Dutch international duo’s moves are anticipated to be finalized by United in the upcoming days, while the club is also awaiting word from Christian Eriksen, who is yet to accept a contract offer from United despite being out of contract at Brentford.
United are also interested in Ajax’s Antony and Lisandro Martinez, and it is anticipated that the club would focus on negotiations for the next.
