The manager of Chelsea football club, Thomas Tuchel has stressed that nobody at the club is happy with the decision of Antonio Rudiger to leave the club.

Recently, coach Thomas Tuchel told reporters that Antonio Rudiger has decided to leave Chelsea after a series of back and forth concerning the contract extension of the German footballer.

Note that Rudiger’s contract with Chelsea will officially expire on June 30, 2022. Before now, both coach Thomas Tuchel and the management of the club have been making efforts to extend his stay at West London.

Reports claimed that the negotiations between Chelsea and Rudiger collapsed because of the demands the German international was making. Since Antonio Rudiger joined Chelsea from AS Roma on July 9, 2017, for a transfer fee worth €35 million, the 29-year-old German footballer has been earning £100,000 per week as a player of Chelsea.

When Chelsea were trying to extend his contract beyond this summer, the German footballer said he wanted nothing less than £290,000 per week. But the Premier League club refused to grant the defender’s demand.

Amid the negotiations, the owner of Chelsea, Raman Abramovich was banned from doing business in the United Kingdom. Hence, the club was suspended from selling players, and signing and extending contracts.

As Chelsea were waiting for a new owner to be announced, Antonio Rudiger grew impatient and decided that he would not stay at the club beyond the 2021-2022 season.

Currently, the update is that Spanish La Liga giants Real Madrid have reached an agreement with the German defender to join the club on a free transfer this summer.

Ahead of Chelsea’s Premier League game against Manchester United scheduled to kick off at 19:45 on Thursday, April 28, at Old Trafford, coach Thomas Tuchel said though nobody likes Rudiger’s decision to leave the club the club has to move on.

“I don’t think anybody likes it. He gives everybody confidence in the dressing room”, coach Thomas Tuchel said. “He is a unique character and plays on an outstanding level. He sometimes takes the focus on himself, he loves responsibility.

“Nobody likes this decision but we have to accept it. Like it or not there will be life at Chelsea after Toni. It is also the most important thing for us that it ends like it started, on the highest level.”

On how Chelsea will replace the German defender, coach Thomas Tuchel added: “It is my job. No matter how the situation is solved and how active we can be in the transfer market, in the end, we will dig in and we will try to squeeze out everything from the squad that we have.

“I will fall in love with the squad I have then and push it to the limit. It was a pleasure every single day with Toni, I am concerned that we have talked too much about it in the past because there are still big things to achieve.

“From pre-season next season, life will go on whether we are happy about it or not and I will be fully involved with all my heart and all my knowledge.”

Since Antonio Rudiger joined Chelsea in 2017, the German footballer has played 196 games in all competitions in which he scored 12 goals and provided 7 assists for Chelsea.

So far this season, Rudiger has scored five goals and provided 4 assists in 47 games in all competitions. His transfer market value is €35 million.
