In 2019, one of the biggest celebrities feuds on the internet was between Coleen Rooney, the wife of former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney and Rebekah Vardy, the wife of Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy. All is not close to being over yet as Rebekah Vardy has taken the feud from the internet to a court of law.
The war started when Coleen Rooney took to Twitter in October 2019 to allege that Rebekah Vardy leaked a private Instagram live post she shared with her. She said Vardy’s wife sold the content of the post to the press.
The post was about the insinuation that Rooney‘s wife who has given birth to four boys was considering gender selection in order to have a baby girl. The content was not only used by the press in England, it was widely reported in mainstream and online media across the world.
However, Vardy’s wife took to Instagram than to insist that he didn’t leak Coleen’s post to any media outlet but that didn’t stop the feud from lingering and it was tagged #WagathaChristie on social media.
Hence, Rebekah Vardy said the accusation has caused her a great deal of anxiety and she decided to slam a £1million libel suit against her once good friend.
In the other hand, Coleen Rooney‘s lawyers have issued a statement to reveal that they were not expecting court proceedings on the matter. The statement also revealed that Coleen had invited Rebekah and her lawyers to a meeting where she could show them the evidence that made her believed that Rebekah leaked her post. But Verdy’s wife refused to accept the invitation only to result in a legal battle.
“It is disappointing that Mrs Vardy has chosen to issue court proceedings. Coleen feels that the time and money involved could be put to better use; her offer to meet face-to-face still stands”, a statement from Coleen’s legal representatives said.
“Mrs Vardy’s decision to issue court proceedings does at least mean that Coleen’s evidence can be made public when the time is right.”
As at last check, the exact date for the hearing of the case has not been known but it has been listed on HM Courts and Tribunals Service for hearing later this year.
Rebekah is being represented by law company Kingsley Napley while Coleen is being represented by Brabners.
Jamie Vardy has been married to Rebekah since 25 May 2016. They both have three children together after Vardy has had a child in his previous relationship. While Wayne Rooney married Coleen on 12 June 2008 after six years of dating. They both have four boys together.
