Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema has disclosed that he would like to retire at the French club Lyon FC. According to the 32-year-old goal scorer, he stated that he will end his football career where it started from.

Karim Benzema is a French footballer who started his professional career at his boyhood club Lyon FC in 2004 after he had spent about four years playing for the youth team of the French club. The Lyon born attacker helped his boyhood club win about three Ligue 1 trophy between 2004 and 2008. Benzema played over 112 games for Lyon and scored about 43 goals in total before he joined the Los Blancos team in 2009.

Although, Benzema had the most successful moments of his career as a footballer in Real Madrid having won four Champions League trophy and three La Liga Cups with Real Madrid. Despite all these, his heart still belongs to his boyhood club Lyon FC and he stated that he will like to end his career where it all began.

The French man disclosed this while speaking with the French side’s official TV channel earlier this week. In his words: “Coming back to Lyon? It is often said to me. People know how attached I am to Lyon,”

“Coming back to Lyon immediately is not possible because I am in the best club in the world and I have a lot of things to do. But [I could] come back to Lyon and retire, why not?

“Anyway, I will come back to Lyon, whether as a footballer or not”.

Also, during the chat, Benzema talked about the three greatest players he ever paired it. He stated that it is very hard to make a decision on the best trio he paired because he has been opportune to play with several great players.

“The best three I’ve played with? It’s hard. There have been so many,” he added.

“In France, I enjoyed playing with Juninho [Pernambucano] and Sylvain Wiltord. But in Madrid, there were a lot of good players. Cristiano Ronaldo, [Sergio] Ramos …It’s hard to choose. But I had the chance to play with very great players.”

It is funnily amazing that the Real Madrid striker also talked about Lyon’s win over Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League campaign. He stated that he was not surprised that Real Madrid was defeated by Lyon.

“The Juve win? I wasn’t surprised, really. It is very difficult to beat Lyon in the Champions League. Even more so in their own backyard.”
