The manager of Manchester City, Pep Guardiola has confirmed that the Premier League club has been enjoying success in the game of football because the club has a lot of money to spend on players.

On Wednesday, February 24, 2021, the Premier League current table-toppers proved how rich they are by playing against Borussia Monchengladbach with four defenders and a goalkeeper that worth a total of £266.7 million.

The defenders – Kyle Walker (£50million), Aymeric Laporte (£57million), Joao Cancelo (£60million), Ruben Dias (£65million), and the goalkeeper Ederson (£34.7million), ensured that Borussia Monchengladbach did not score any goal against them in their 2-0 victory in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League round of 16.

Manchester City’s win over the German Bundesliga side makes it 19 successive times that the Premier League side has enjoyed victories so far this season and Pep Guardiola believes that the current success of the club is the reward of the amount of money City spent in the transfer market.

Since 2008 when Abu Dhabi United Group purchased Manchester City for £210 million, the club has continued to enjoy unprecedented investment which has made the club one of the most fierce clubs in Europe.

City have grown to a giant in Europe especially in the Premier League as they have continued to compete for every title they are involved in as fiercely as possible.

Their dominance have earned them 4 Premier League titles between 2012 and 2019. It has also won them two FA Cups, 5 EFL Cups, and three Community Shields.

Manchester City won their first domestic treble – Premier League, FA Cup, and EFL Cup at the end of the 2018–2019 season. In that same season, Manchester City became the first team to claim all of the major English trophies available in a single season, winning the Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup, and the Community Shield.

This season, they are already on the verge of landing their 5th Premier League title in nine years. They are currently topping the Premier League table with 59 points in 25 games, 10 points above second-placed Manchester United.

“We have a lot of money to buy a lot of incredible players,” Pep Guardiola said. “It is true. Without good quality players, we cannot do it. The humanity of this group… the players are fantastic and have an incredible relationship. They play every game to think just win that game.

“Today, enjoy the night and then think about West Ham. When people talk about the second leg, the second leg is in three weeks so now the next target is West Ham. That is all I am concerned with.”

Despite the investment in Manchester City, the club has not been able to conquer Europe. They have gotten to the semi-final of the competition once and in the quarter-finals three successive times.

So far in this season’s UEFA Champions League campaign, Manchester City are seen as the favorites but they will have to conquer the reigning champions of the competition, Bayern Munich at a later stage of the competition.
