Thierry Henry left Major League Soccer side, CF Montreal, prematurely according to the director of the club, Olivier Renard. The director described the stay of the 43-year-old French tactician at the club as very promising.

On Thursday, February 25, the news broke that Thierry Henry has decided to resign from his position as the head coach of Montreal because of personal reasons.

A statement from the former Arsenal and FC Barcelona star confirmed that he decided to resign because he needed to reunite with his family in the United Kingdom.

According to Thierry Henry’s statement, the restriction on movement due to the coronavirus pandemic has kept him away from his family especially his children who are all based in the UK.

He stressed that the long distance between him and his family was causing a “strain” that he needed to address by reuniting with them instead of remaining in the United States.

Thierry Henry said: “It is with a heavy heart that I’ve decided to take this decision. The last year has been an extremely difficult one for me.

“Due to the worldwide pandemic, I was unable to see my children. Unfortunately due to the ongoing restrictions and the fact that we will have to relocate to the US again for several months will be no different. The separation is too much of a strain for me and my kids.

“Therefore, it is with much sadness that I must decide to return to London and leave CF Montreal. I would like to thank the fans, players, and all the staff of this club that have made me feel so welcome.”

In reaction to Thierry Henry’s decision to leave Montreal, the director of the club said: “Thierry’s departure is unfortunate and premature because it was very promising, but he told me of his desire to find his family.

“I would like to thank him, first of all in human terms, because he showed the example last year by being away from his family, but also in sporting terms for what we have built together upon his arrival”.

Thierry Henry became the soccer manager of CF Montreal in November 2019. The MLS club gave him a two-year deal which should have kept him at the club until the end of the 2021 season.

In his short spell at Montreal, the 43-year-old Frenchman helped the MLS club to get to the Playoffs for the first time since 2016. Henry helped the club to finish 9th in the Eastern Conference last season.

He also led the club to the quarter-final stage of the CONCACAF Champions League where they were knocked out by Honduran club Olimpia via away goals rule.

The fans of the soccer club were expecting more from him this season before his premature exit from the club.
