“Only a Crisis Can Save Title Hopes,” – Jurgen Klopp After Merseyside Derby Loss

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp seems to have thrown in the towel on the Premier League title race this season after Liverpool’s Merseyside derby loss to Everton at Goodison Park.

Jarrad Branthwaite and Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored in either half as Sean Dyche’s Everton boosted survival hopes with a 2-0 victory over the star-studded Liverpool side.

While the victory put the Toffees within touching distance of safety from Premier League relegation, the Reds’ Premier League title hopes were torn apart.

With four games left to wrap up the season, the 2019 Champions League winners failed to close the gap on Arsenal at the top with Manchester City also gearing up to stay put in the title with two outstanding games.

As things stand, the Reds have clearly lost momentum in the title race and it would take a magical turnaround for them to bounce back and catch up with Arsenal and Manchester City.

Jurgen Klopp acknowledged this fact in his post-match press conference and was left with nothing but an apology to the fans.

Speaking after the game, the German tactician, who is set to draw the curtain on his nine-year stint at Anfield at the end of the season, said it would only take a ‘crisis at Manchester City and Arsenal’ for his side to bounce back into the title race.

“We need a crisis at Manchester City and Arsenal and need to win football games.

”We are not safe (to qualify for) the Champions League as well so we should just play better football. You can see we are in a rush in front of goal,” he said.

It has been a drastic unfortunate turnaround for Klopp in the past few weeks at Liverpool. Talks of a magical end to his Liverpool reign were renting the air when the Reds were strongly chasing a quadruple on all four fronts before they started falling apart.

It all began with a disappointing 2-2 draw with Manchester United at Old Trafford before a shock 3-0 capitulation at home by Atalanta in the Europa League quarterfinal first leg.

The loss to Atalanta was followed by another shock home defeat to Crystal Palace which effectively saw the Merseyside club tank Premier League title hopes.

They have now managed just one win in their last four Premier League games and will depend on Arsenal and Manchester City match outcomes to determine their chances of clinching the Premier League title.
