The English Premier League produced classic results and engrossing encounters on Wednesday, April 24, 2024.

Everton 2-0 Liverpool 

Sean Dyche’s masterminded his side to a lovely win over rivals, Liverpool, as they put a massive dent in the Reds’ title push.

However, Liverpool’s blushes were spared as Calvert-Lewin was deemed to have been in an offside position before that piece of play occurred.

Twenty-seven minutes into the game, Jarrad Branthwaite put the Toffees ahead in the Merseyside derby, after two attempts at goal with the first cleared away.

In the second period, Dominic Calvert-Lewin headed home for Everton, off a corner hoisted into the area by McNeil.

Calvert-Lewin rose highest and powered his effort into the bottom corner, beating Alisson Becker in goal for Liverpool.

The Reds slumped to a defeat at Goodison Park, which could albeit spell doom on their battle for the league title.

English Premier League Results: Wolverhampton Wanderers 0-1 Bournemouth

Despite Wolves controlling the encounter for most of it, Bournemouth left the Molineux Stadium with 3 points, courtesy of an amazing goal by Antoine Semenyo.

Semenyo put the Cherries ahead in the 37th minute, after Wolverhampton Wanderers captain Kilman failed to properly clear a cut-back from Kerkez, and flicked the ball upwards for Semenyo to volley into the net.

The goal ultimately turned out to be the decisive goal of the game, with Bournemouth returning to the Vitality Stadium after a show of doggedness and resilience away from home.

Crystal Palace 2-0 Newcastle United

Oliver Glasser’s side took their chances when it came, and it was enough to see them through to victory at Selhurst Park.

A brace from Jean-Philippe Mateta propelled them to a hearty victory, as they moved further to sealing their status for next season in the top-flight.

Mateta scored the opener after Crystal Palace won the ball high up, with Eberechi Eze locating Jean-Philippe Mateta, who switched the ball with Ayew to cut Newcastle United open.

The Frenchman then converted with ease, putting the Eagles ahead, and in cruise control.

A VAR check was conducted to ascertain if the goal was legitimate, and after the review, the goal was judged to be rightful.

Early in the second period, on-loan attacker from Villarreal Ben Brereton Diaz poked the visitors ahead, after Ben Osborn had laid a cut-back into his path.

Four minutes later, he turned provider for Rasmus Hojlund, as he controlled a ball sent into the box by Diogo Dalot with his chest before directing a cut-back for Rasmus Hojlund, who thundered the ball home from close range.

Manchester United pick up massive points under the floodlights at Old Trafford, with many contented by their overall display, but still perturbed about their shaky state defensively.
