2022-23 Serie A champions Napoli have signed former Tottenham manager Antonio Conte as the club’s new manager.

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis targeted Conte as a replacement for interim manager Francesco Calzona, who took charge of the club following a deadlock with two former managers – Rudi Garcia and Walter Mazzarri.

De Laurentiis struggled to find a potent replacement for Scudetto-winning manager Luciano Spalletti, who left the club to take up Italy national team manager role.

Rudi Garcia succeeded Spalletti but struggled to step in the shoes of the 2022-23 Scudetto winner. He was sacked following a series of dismal results.

Garcia’s successor and former manager Walter Mazzarri was also sacked a few months into the role after he underperformed in the Neapolitan’s dugout.

Struggling for a potent hand to man the dugout, De Laurentiis finally settled for an interim hand, Francesco Calzona, till the end of the season.

Under Calzona, Napoli still struggled with a series of dismal results and have now finished the 2023-24 season 10th on the Serie A table, dropping out of all European places.

Amidst what has been a disappointing campaign with the club, Futballnews learned talks were ongoing between the club and Antonio Conte to become the new manager.

Now, according to Fabrizio Romano, the two parties have reached an agreement on all terms of engagement with the former Inter Milan, Juventus, Chelsea, and Tottenham manager set to be announced as the new manager.

The report adds Conte has agreed to a three-year contract till 2027. The 54-year-old will take charge of the club’s pre-season campaign and will be tasked with returning the team to top-level performance next season.
