Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta launched an attack on the match officials following the Gunner’s first Premier League loss this term to Newcastle United.

Arteta claimed Gabriel was pushed in the back and the ball was out of play in the build-up, but Anthony Gordon’s goal was awarded after triple VAR check.

Also, VAR stated that they could not establish the precise moment of contact at which the ball was passed to Gordon, and they could not uphold claims of an apparent offside.

The decision by the match officials in the match was infuriating to the Arsenal boss and he did not hold back from lashing out on the officials after the match.

In the post-match interview, Mikel Arteta spoke to Sky Sports angrily, saying: “We lost the match for the clear and obvious decisions, it is embarrassing It is a disgrace, that is what it is, a disgrace.”

“That’s how I feel and that’s how everybody feels in that [dressing] room. You cannot imagine the amount of messages we’ve got saying this cannot continue. It’s embarrassing. I’m sorry, embarrassing,” Mikel Arteta continued.

“I feel sick. That’s how I feel. I feel sick to be part of this. It is not good enough and we cannot accept that.”

When Joe Willock recovered the ball close to the corner flag before stepping into the area, there was some uncertainty as to whether it was still in play.

Following a prolonged review, it was decided that the ball had remained in play; however, a second review was conducted for a potential Joelinton foul after Willock’s cross.

After Joelinton was found not to have committed an offense, there was one last offside check, and the goal was declared to the dismay of Mikel Arteta.

Mike Arteta was extremely angry with the incident because his team lost to leaders Manchester City, who had defeated Bournemouth 6-1 earlier in the day.

The Spaniard continued his attack in the press conference, stating that decisions such as the Gordon goal were impacting the standing of the Premier League.

He also added: “I have been in this country for more than 20 years, and this is nowhere near the level to describe this as the best league in the world.”

Concluding his post-match press conference, the Arsenal head coach said: “I feel sick to be part of this, sick.”

The goal from Anthony Gordon handed Mikel Arteta and his men their first defeat of the 2023/2024 Premier League season.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe held a contradictory stance to Arteta’s. Speaking after the match, Howe said: “It looked a good goal to me.”

If the goal hadn’t been disallowed, Newcastle would have finished with an XG of 0.3 in the match against an in-form Arsenal side.

The loss means Arsenal are now in third place in the Premier League standings with three points behind Man City and two points behind Tottenham who still have a game in hand.
