Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has sent a message to the club’s hierarchy amidst reports he could be sacked at the end of the season.
After being dismissed from his role as PSG manager, Pochettino returned to North London as Chelsea manager, signing a two-year contract.
With his experience in English football, having managed Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur in the English elite division, the Argentine was tipped to turn around the Blues’ dwindling fortunes with his experience.
In what has been a major transitional phase for the Blues following Todd Boehly’s takeover in 2022, Pochettino joined Chelsea as the fifth man in the Blues’ dugout in less than a year. He preceded Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter, Bruno Saltor, and Frank Lampard.
The Argentine seemed to have failed to weather the challenge – molding the Blues’ newly-signed young talents to a formidable squad – that led to the dismissal of his predecessors and is now facing an uncertain future at the club.
An inconsistent Premier League has seen the Blues fail to qualify for the Champions League and are struggling for a place in the lower tier of UEFA club competitions. It is understood this has piled up pressure on Mauricio Pochettino with reports he could be sacked at the end of the season.
Amidst report of his imminent sack, Mauricio Pochettino, weighing into the pressure that has tanked up on him on Sky Sport, said he needs time to get his ideas and philosophy across to the team.
“It’s difficult to see every single week that I am under scrutiny and judgement”.
“It’s not my decision whether to be here or not to be here next season”.
“All managers need time to translate their ideas and philosophy, we need time”, told Sky Sports.
Pochettino’s response could be seen as a point-blank message to the Chelsea hierarchy to give him time to fix the team.
While Pochettino seemed to have fallen below expectations, he has nailed reasonable benchmarks enough to win him a second chance.
He reached the final of the EFL Cup before losing to Liverpool and also reached the last four of the FA Cup before losing to Manchester City.
Overall, he has had an average season with the Blues but whether he stays next season or not is an exclusive decision of the club’s hierarchy.
