Mason Greenwood: Nike suspends Greenwood’s endorsement deal over reports that he assaulted his girlfriend Harriet Robson

American Sportswear manufacturing company, Nike has suspended its sponsorship deal with embattled Manchester United striker, Mason Greenwood.

The company suspended its deal with the 20-year-old English striker after the footballer’s girlfriend, Harriet Robson took to his Instagram page to share pictures and videos to confirm that Greenwood assaulted her physically and sexually.

Initially, when the report that Mason Greenwood allegedly raped and assaulted his girlfriend emerged, Nike noted via a statement that the company was monitoring the situation.

The statement which was released to The Athletic on Sunday referred to a statement the Greater Manchester police released in connection with the allegations against the footballer, noting that the company was “profoundly concerned about the unsettling claims”.

Afterward, the situation grew very rapidly to the extent the Greater Manchester police arrested Greenwood on Sunday and his club suspended him indefinitely.

Hence, on Monday, January 31, 2022, Nike issued another statement to declare that the company has suspended its relationship with Greenwood.

A statement from the sportswear manufacturing company read: “We have suspended our relationship with Mason Greenwood.

“We are deeply concerned by the disturbing allegations and will continue to closely monitor the situation.”

Though not much is known about the deal that existed between Nike and Greenwood, Futballnews gathered that Nike has been supplying the English footballer boots since he broke into Manchester United senior team in 2019.

In the same vein, Manchester United have removed every merchandise related to Greenwood from the club’s online store according to a report by The Sun.

The report claimed that some fans who have already bought some of Greenwood’s merchandise are asking the club for a refund.

More so, a report by The Daily Mail claimed that Manchester United’s official partner, Cadbury would no longer feature Greenwood in any of its marketing products. While the club’s major sponsor TeamViewer is said to be closely monitoring the situation.
