Mason Greenwood has reportedly met up with some of his Manchester United teammates after all charges against him were declined.
The 21 year old England International was charged in January 2022, with the uncertainty of rape, assault, and threat to kill following an indictment from his alleged girlfriend.
Attempted rape, controlling and coercive behavior, and assault leading to actual bodily damage were among the allegations against Greenwood, and his trial was scheduled to begin in November 2022.
However, on February 2nd, 2023, the Crown Prosecution Service reported that further charges had been dropped when “important witnesses” recanted their statements.
According to reports that the 21-year-old England international has met with teammates amid ongoing divisions about whether he should return to the Manchester United squad.
It has been stated that Greenwood, who is unable to train or play for United while the internal inquiry is conducted, has made contact with other squad members on social media, including some who are married with children.
According to a recent report, Greenwood will be out for the rest of the season because the 20-time English Premier League champions are taking their time making a choice.
Man United’s manager Erik ten Hag reportedly checked in on Mason Greenwood to see how he was doing physically and mentally and expressed his happiness at the dismissal of the charges against him.
The Times reported that there is controversy among the team over Greenwood’s possible comeback.
Like the women’s team, rumor has it that some players in the men’s team are worried about Greenwood’s return, while others have no problem with him being readmitted.
Mason Greenwood has been with United since he was six years old and made his debut in the club’s 2019 Champions League win over a French team, Paris Saint-Germain.
Mason Greenwood’s contract at Old Trafford runs through June 2025, and he is rumored to be making around £70,000 per week. He also has the option of staying for another year.
The 21-year-old attacker still has two and a half years on his deal at Old Trafford. And under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer he was starting to emerge as a player of genuine quality before his arrest.
Thus far in the 2018–19 season, he has scored 35 goals in 129 games played after finally coming into his own.
Mason Greenwood will be free to continue his career elsewhere if United does not reintroduce him.
An increasing number of reports, however, suggest that the attacker could prefer to renew his transfer abroad to play rather than stay in England.
Relocation to China had been discussed as a possible option.
