Mason Greenwood, of Manchester United, has been charged for attempting to rape a woman, acting in a dominating manner, and assault.

The charges allegedly involved the same female complainant, according to the prosecution which is suspected to be Greenwood’s ex-girlfriend, Harriet Robson. On Monday, October 17, Mr. Greenwood is scheduled to appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court.

The 21-year-old, who has played once for England’s senior men’s side, has not participated in any games or training sessions with Manchester United since his initial arrest in January.

He lost his sponsorship from Nike, and Electronic Arts took him out of the Fifa 22 game’s active squads.

According to Janet Potter of the Crown Prosecution Service North West, charges against Mr. Greenwood for attempted rape, using coercive or controlling behavior, and assault causing actual bodily harm have been given to Greater Manchester Police.

The claimed assault happened in December of last year, while the alleged rape allegedly took place on October 22, 2021.

The alleged use of coercive and controlling behavior spans from November 2018 until January 2022.

According to Ms. Potter, the accusations were brought after a review of a police file by rape-specific prosecutors.

She also stated: “The Crown Prosecution Service reminds all concerned that criminal proceedings against the defendant are active and that he has a right to a fair trial.”

“It is extremely important that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice those proceedings.”

Manchester United FC made a statement in response to the most recent events which read: “Manchester United notes that criminal charges have been brought against Mason Greenwood by the Crown Prosecution Service.”

“He remains suspended by the club, pending the outcome of the judicial process.”

The Crown Prosecution Service issued a statement on Saturday confirming the charges brought against Greenwood: “The Crown Prosecution Service has today authorised Greater Manchester Police to charge Mason Greenwood, 21, with attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.”

“All three counts relate to the same complainant. Specialist rape prosecutors from CPS North West’s complex casework unit authorised the charges following a review of a file of evidence received from Greater Manchester Police.”

“The defendant’s first court appearance will take place on Monday 17 October at Greater Manchester magistrates’ court.”

What happened to Mason Greenwood?

Mason Greenwood, a forward for Manchester United, was detained by Greater Manchester Police in January 2022 after he allegedly attacked his then girlfriend, Harriet Robson.

According to Futballnews, Harriet Robson shared images, audio, and video on her Instagram story to prove that Mason Greenwood had sexually and physically abused her.

Following the release of the exhibits, the footballer faced a barrage of criticism on social media, which led him to disable his Instagram page comment area.

Since they were in high school, Greenwood and Harriet had been seeing each other. Up until January 2022, when it officially ended, the relationship looked promising.
