Manchester United has made contact with Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni as they are planning to bring the player to Old Trafford this summer.
Tottenham manager Antonio Conte is also interested in signing the Italy international, but Inter value him at roughly £50 million.
Last season, he made 44 appearances for his club and is now a regular starter for Italy.
Conte and Bastoni previously had a great partnership at Inter, winning the league together.
Given his previous familiarity with the boss and the prospect of playing in the Champions League next season, Tottenham appears to be the most likely destination for the defender.
Spurs have already signed one Inter player, Croatian winger Ivan Perisic, this summer.
Spurs agreed last week to sign the 33-year-old Croatia international on a free transfer when his Inter Milan contract expires this month. Perisic will reunite with Antonio Conte at Tottenham after winning the Serie A title with Inter Milan in the 2020/21 season.
Perisic, the veteran winger who has become the latest Croatian star to take on a new challenge in north London, has admitted that he will seek advise from Luca Modric when it comes to life at Tottenham.
Conte and sports director Fabio Paratici dipped into Italy’s greatest available assets by signing Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski from Juventus in the January transfer window.
Tottenham finished fourth thanks to the Juve two, and the north London club is set to raid Italy for additional talents this summer.
United, on the other hand, will be undergoing a complete rebuild in the coming months following a disastrous season and the appointment of new manager Erik ten Hag.
Manchester United announced that Erik ten Hag will take over as manager after the 2021-22 season, with high expectations for the former Ajax manager.
The good news is that Erik ten Hag is a seasoned coach who knows how to win. Since taking over as coach of Ajax in 2018, Ten Hag has a victory percentage of 74%.
Ralf Rangnick, on the other hand, has only won 41% of the games since taking over as temporary manager at Manchester United last season.
