The 34-year-old Argentine football icon is pushing PSG to execute a swap deal that would see Sergio Aguero join PSG and Mauro Icardi move to FC Barcelona. This is so because Lionel Messi and Icardi are reportedly fighting.
Recall that when Manchester City failed to extend Aguero’s contract last season, the Argentine striker decided to move to Barcelona to play alongside Messi.
However, when he got to Barcelona, the Spanish side failed to extend Messi’s contract which forced Messi to join PSG in August.
When Messi got to PSG, he met Icardi who has always blamed Messi for his inability to return to Argentina’s national team for the past three years.
Recall that Icardi and Lionel Messi used to be teammates in Argentina’s national team. Before now, Icardi is being hated by most football fans and players in Argentina for betraying Argentina’s teammate and friend Maxi López by sleeping with his wife, Wanda Nara.
When Icardi’s secret relationship with Nara was exposed, the scandal ended Maxi López’s marriage with Nara. It also kicked Icardi out of the national team.
Whenever he was invited to the national team, the Argentine press and some Argentine pundits refer to the scandal to discourage coaches from inviting him back to the national team.
Despite such resentment against the forward, Icardi went on to marry Nara. However, the marriage is currently facing turbulent time.
A report by a British publication, Mirror that quoted El Nacional, claimed that to date, Icardi feels Messi is the reason he has not been invited back to the national team.
At the time of publishing this report, it was not clear if Icardi’s alleged belief that Messi has a hand in his inability to get a national team invite was the reason for their current fight at PSG.
Mirror’s report claimed that Aguero who has not spent up to four months on his two years contract with FC Barcelona is ready to leave the Spanish club earlier than expected. It is now a matter of time to see how Messi can influence PSG to send Icardi to Barcelona.
