Paris Saint Germain super striker Kylian Mbappe is not happy that the French Ligue 1 didn’t do what the English Premier League did in the 2018-2019 season when the league crowned three players highest goal scorers of the season.

Recall that the French Ligue 1 had to end the season prematurely due to the coronavirus pandemic which earlier forced it to be suspended. When the government of the country suspended all sporting activities until September 2020, the governing body of the league had no choice than to end the 2019-2020 season.

Afterwards, PSG was crowned champion of the league since the club was leading the league table with 12 points before the season was halted. Mbappe was also given the Golden Boot despite scoring the same number of goals with another player.

The French international took to Twitter and retweeted a tweet shared by the official handle of Ligue 1. On the league’s tweet, a list of top 5 scorers in the 2019-2020 season was written with their number of goals. Kylian Mbappe‘s name was written first while Monaco striker Wissam Ben Yedder’s name came second despite having 18 goals each which should have simply made them joint top scorers for the season.

To the dismay of football fans across the world, the reason French Ligue 1 gave for crowing Kylian Mbappe the sole highest goal scorer of the season instead of a joint top scorer with the Monaco player was that all the goals of the PSG star were scored during regular play while three goals out of Ben Yedder’s 18 goals were scored through penalties.

Like other football fans, Mbappe believes Ligue 1 should have named two of them joint top scorers, like how the Premier League named Liverpool’s duo Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, and Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang joint top scorers for the 2018-2019 season.

“Thank you for all your messages. I think that Wissam also deserves a trophy, like the Premier League, did last season, to reward his year,” Mbappe tweeted with the hashtag ‘A trophy for Wissam’ in French.

Wissam who also plays in the French national team responded to Mbappe’s tweet in French, saying: “Thank you bro, congratulations to you… We can alternate if you want”.

In the 2018-2019 football season, Mbappe was also named the top scorer in the French Ligue 1 with 33 goals. Hence, this is the second time in two years that the PSG star ended the season with a golden boot.
