German football manager Julian Nagelsmann has a surprise clause in his new contract with the Germany national team.

The 39-year-old signed a new two-year contract extension with the Die Mannschaft to take charge of the team till the 2026 World Cup.

German football chiefs deemed it necessary to tie him to the new contract amidst soaring interest in his services by Europe’s top clubs.

Bayern Munich were leading the list of clubs interested in signing Julian Nagelsmann again and had reportedly open talks with the German tactician.

He was also linked to Manchester United and Chelsea with a move to the Premier League considered an option.

Speculations on his future effectively ended when he penned down the new contract extension.

Now, according to Sky Germany, there is a clause in the new contract that could deter Julian Nagelsmann from seeing out the signed two-year contract with the Die Mannschaft.

The report reveals German football chiefs have soldered a minimum requirement of qualifying from the group stage of the 2024 Euros as a condition for Nagelsmann to run the full cycle of his new contract extension.

This means the contract will be terminated immediately if Germany fail to qualify from the group stage of the tournament.

Also, he will not be paid his remaining salary and pay-off as part of the clause.

While the clause appears austere to outsiders, sources close to the German football’s governing body reveal the move is to forestall a repeat of the 2022 World Cup disaster in which Germany crashed out of the group stage of the tournament.

They believe if Julian Nagelsmann can’t qualify from the group stage of the 2024 Euros, it is likely he will not be able to do so in a more competitive and larger football tournament as the World Cup.

Futballnews understands Julian Nagelsmann’s previous contract was set to expire after the 2024 Euros before German football chiefs made a U-turn, handing him the new two-year extension after back-to-back friendly wins over France and the Netherlands during the March international break.

Germany have been seeded in Group A in the 2024 Euros alongside Scotland, Switzerland, and Hungary, and Nagelsmann is confident his star-studded side, boasting of generational talents and veterans like Toni Kroos, will qualify from the group stages of the tournament.
