Jesse Lingard and Marcus Rashford were not part of the England national team squad that won Iceland 1-0 on Saturday, September 5 and they would not also be part of the squad that would face Denmark on Tuesday, September 8.

Initially, the England national team coach, Gareth Southgate invited Marcus Rashford for the matches. Unfortunately, he had to withdraw from the squad due to injury. He was replaced by 24-year-old Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish.

As for Jesse Lingard, Gareth Southgate did not deem it fit to invite the Manchester United star because of his form in the just concluded 2019-2020 season where he scored only one Premier League goal and provided no assist in 22 appearances.

Before the entire season ended, the manager of the club, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had given him the opportunity to play 40 matches in all competitions but ended up scoring only 4 goals and providing just 2 assists in all the games.

As for Marcus Rashford, he had a wonderful 2019-2020 season but injuries didn’t allow him to do as much as he was capable of. However, before the season ended, he was able to score 22 goals and provided 11 assists in 44 matches.

Jesse Lingard and Marcus Rashford are both warming up to the commencement of the 2020-2021 Premier League season which would commence for United on September 19 when they are expected to host Crystal Palace.
