This resignation came after his appeal against a 30-month ban was rejected and FIFA extended the ban “to have worldwide effect”.

Paratici was banned after Juventus – where he was formerly the sporting director and managing director – was found guilty of false accounting.

Recall we talked about Juventus having their deducted 15-point overturned just on Friday 21st April 2023 with the case set to be re-examined.

Well, Paratici, who took up the role of Managing Director at Tottenham in June 2021, had his appeal which he received at Juventus rejected.

The rejection of his appeal will have him serve a 30-month ban in football anywhere in the world, hence his resignation.

A statement from Tottenham read; “Fifa ruled to extend the ban worldwide and, whilst there continues to be a dispute as to the scope and extent of the ban, the current worldwide ban prevents Fabio from fulfilling his duties as our managing director of football.”

“Fabio has consequently taken the decision to resign from his position at the club with immediate effect to focus on his legal position in respect of the FIGC (Italian Football Federation) and Fifa rulings.”

Tottenham sacked Antonio Conte in late March following his outburst about players’ attitude towards winning, and Paratici confirmed that Spurs are “focused” on moving forward and looking for a replacement until his ban was made worldwide by FIFA.

Scott Munn was appointed chief football officer at Spurs in a role that saw him join the club’s board and also be in charge of all footballing departments.

Tottenham’s chairman, Daniel Levy said in a statement that; “This has been a stressful time for Fabio and his family,” we wanted to ensure that we allowed for due process to be followed. Fabio is a man who lives and breathes football – we wish him well.”

“As outlined in our year-end results, we started several months ago to restructure our football operations and last week announced the appointment of Scott Munn as chief football officer to head up all the departments.”

    Who Is Fabio Paratici?

Fabio Paratici is an Italian association football director and also, a former player. He was born on July 13, 1972.

Fabio was a managing director of the English club Tottenham Hotspur before FIFA extended his ban which led to him stepping aside – and now he has resigned from his position.

As a player, Paratici made his Serie C1 senior professional football debut with Piacenza in the year 1989.

In his playing days, he frequently signed for numerous clubs in Serie C1 and Serie C2 of the Italian football pyramid.

Paratici hung his football boots at the age of 31 in 2004 after a successful career playing for 12 different clubs over the course of 15 years.

After he retired from active football, he went ahead with football involvement through management.

Before joining Tottenham to become their managing director, he worked for Italian club Sampdoria as chief observer and head of scouting.

There he formed a good partnership with Giuseppe Marotta and then moved to Italian Serie A giants Juventus where he was chief football officer for good 11 years.

Why was Paratici Banned From Football?

On 20 January 2023, as part of the Plusvalenza reopening of the investigation and citing new facts, the court of appeal of the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) accepted in part the appeal of the Federal Prosecutor’s Office on the partial revocation of the acquittal decision of the same court from May 2022.

Fabio Paratici was then suspended for 30 months from holding office in Italian football as punishment for capital gain violations; and Juventus – his former club was deducted 15 points.

Paratici’s ban was given for the part he played in a false accounting scandal involving Juventus, where he worked for 11 years, that led to the club’s board resigning en masse in November.
