Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has reportedly held showdown talks with United youngster Alejandro Garnacho for a controversial social media reaction after United’s 2-2 draw with Bournemouth.

It was another woeful Premier League performance for the Red Devils against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.

The visitors settled for a dramatic 2-2 draw with the Cherries, escaping defeat at the death after the hosts were denied a last-minute penalty after VAR check.

The draw has seen United drop points in four consecutive games, and have won just one of their last seven Premier League matches.

More striking about the game was Erik ten Hag’s decision to sub off Alejandro Garnacho at halftime.

Speaking after the game, Ten Hag implied in his comment he subbed off the Argentine youngster for being too erratic and not staying in formation and possession.

He also took a shot at the player’s work rate when he talked about players not tracking back to cover defensive distances when out of possession.

“On the second half, we needed to get players to stay in formation and in possession. We gave the opponents a lot of space trying to create. And, above all, fail to cover up the defensive distances and trackback.”

However, popular Manchester United fans like Mark Goldbridge had begged to differ from Erik ten Hag’s excuses after the game.

Goldbridge took to his X handle to blast Erik ten Hag’s decision to sub off Garnacho in the game.

He wrote;

“Garnacho has been one of our best players this season. Poor first half but taking him off at half time and holding him up as the problem is a joke. Many have done much worse week in week out and are still out there.”

After Ten Hag’s post-match press conference, Goldbridge went on to blast the Dutch for blaming Garnacho in the game.

“Ten Hag subtly blaming Garnacho in the post match press conference…not a good look throwing a 19 year old under the bus who has actually delivered for you this season. But then again he’s clearly scared of upsetting the bigger earners,” he wrote again.

Garnacho liked Mark Goldbridge’s second post on Erik ten Hag’s comment and later deleted it.

Now, according to The Manchester Evening News, the Argentine sensation has been called for showdown talks by Erik ten Hag for the social media activity after the Bournemouth draw.

Sources close to the club reveal internal discussions is ongoing to settle the score between the 19-year-old and the Dutch.

Despite United’s dwindling fortunes this season, Garnacho has been phenomenal for the Red Devils. He has 13 goal contributions – 9 goals and 4 assists – in 42 appearances for the club.

The Argentine sensation could risk disciplinary action by Erik ten Hag who is known for clamping down on players with ‘dissenting activities on social media.’
