Crystal Palace steamrollered to an unlikely 4-0 victory over Manchester United at Selhurst on Monday night to pile up pressure on Erik ten Hag.
A brace from Michael Olise and goals from Mitchell and Mateta condemned the Red Devils to their 13th Premier League defeat this season – the highest number of defeats they have recorded in a single season in the club’s history.
Reactions have continued to trail the outcome of the match which has left United’s European hopes on a thin ice.
Former Manchester United midfielder, Paul Scholes, has claimed that the defeat to Crystal Palace on Monday is the “final nail in the coffin” for manager Erik ten Hag.
Speaking on Premier League Productions alongside Michael Owen, the United legendary midfielder said it felt like the end for Ten Hag.
He said: “It’s been a difficult one, I know Michael’s saying he’s felt it for a long time and the signs have been there that it’s going to be difficult for him to do it next year.
“But tonight felt like the final nail in the coffin, really.
“It felt like the end. If it is the end, I’m not sure what’s out there at the minute.
I’ve felt he might get another year and work for a club that has calmed down a little bit by the new owners but it just doesn’t feel like it now.”
Pressure has piled up on Erik ten Hag following United’s less-than-stellar campaign this season.
With one year left on his contract, Erik ten Hag could be shown the exit door in the summer due to United’s underwhelming performances this season.
